- Which Mac and which macOS version (Apple menu → About This Mac).
- Which monitor, and how it is connected (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, hub or dock in between).
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- For brightness problems: does “Settings → Display” in DisplayHud show DDC or the gamma route? Turn on “Show control route” to see it.
Two things that solve most cases
The monitor ignores brightness
Many monitors ship with DDC/CI switched off, and on some gaming monitors the switch is only reachable while variable refresh rate (Adaptive Sync, FreeSync) is off. Turn VRR off, enable DDC/CI in the monitor’s own menu, then turn VRR back on. Both work at the same time afterwards — measured on an ASUS ROG Strix OLED.
macOS refuses to open the app
Until the first notarised release, right-click the app and choose “Open”. That prompt appears once.
Licence trouble
Lost your key? Write from the email address you bought with, and you get it back. Need it on a different Mac? Open DisplayHud on the old one and choose “Remove licence” — that frees the slot immediately.
